Die Olivier Awards haben die diesjährigen Nominierungen bekanntgegeben:
Das neue Musical »Charlie and the Chocolate Factory« und das Revival von Stephen Sondheims »Merrily We Roll Along« führen mit jeweils sieben Nominierungen die Liste an, gefolgt von »Once«, »The Book of Mormon« und »The Scottsboro Boys« mit jeweils sechs Nominierungen, darunter „Bestes Musical“.
Als „Bestes Revival“ sind neben »Merrily We Roll Along« auch »The Sound of Music« und »Tell Me On a Sunday« nominiert.
In der Kategorie „Beste Regie“ finden sich mit Susan Stroman (»The Scottsboro Boys«) und Maria Friedman (»Merrily We Roll Along«) auch zwei Vertreterinnen der Sparte Musical.
»Charlie and the Chocolate Factory« ist ebenfalls nominiert für die Lichtgestaltung von Paul Pyant, sowie das Bühnenbild und die Kostüme von Mark Thompson. »Merrily We Roll Along« könnte einen Preis für die Tongestaltung von Gareth Owen und die Kostüme von Soutra Gilmour bekommen, ebenso wie »Once« unter anderem für den Ton von Clive Goodwin oder das Bühnenbild von Bob Crowley.
Eine Kategorie der Awards wird vom Publikum gewählt – der BBC Radio 2 Audience Award. Die Nominierten in dieser Kategorie sind »Matilda«, »Les Misérables«, »The Phantom of the Opera« und »Wicked«.
Die Verleihung der Olivier Awards findet am 13. April im Royal Opera House statt.
